Also please note, just because and ancestor's name is not found on any of the sources below does not mean that they did not serve. Most states lost substantial number of military service records before compiled lists were publicized, therefore you may need to look in various sources to find your Forgotten Patriot ancestor(s). To make matters more challenging, for many of our progressive ancestors they changed their enslaved surnames after the war to their preferred surnames ...they wanted to make it a tad harder to find them - but don't despair, you eventually will!
